The Art of Parties: Double Club Opens in London

It’s hard to recall a more intriguing announcement than the recent news that Fondazione Prada was opening Double Club, a West-meets-Congo-themed pop-up restaurant, dance club and gallery space in a refurbished old dump of a nightclub in East London. Last night’s opening party lived up to its eclectic promise. As part of the project’s mission to give equal billing to elements from both cultures, decadent imperialist pleasures — Champagne! oysters! art-world glitz! — shared pride of place alongside Congolese party favors, including a goat-meat barbecue, plastic patio chairs, and African beer. The tempest brewing in Manhattan on Saturday night didn’t keep the well heeled from venturing downtown to Pastis for a Brazilian blowout. Hosted by Carlos Jereissati — the president of Iguatemi, Brazil’s premier luxury retailer group, which hosts art events in its swank shopping centers as well as Sao Paulo fashion week — the dinner drew a conga line of fabulous guests, including an uncharacteristically scruffy Andrea Casiraghi, as well as the always-soigneé Tatiana Santo Domingo, Amy Sacco and Ann Slater.
